Nokia says SmartPhone market will double in 2006

According to Reuters, Nokia has announced that the SmartPhone market will double in 2006. This is on top of already impressive sales in 2005, so the cell phone maker expects big things for its’ more intelligent phones.
“I am comfortable in saying that we expect the market for convergence devices like smartphones to double to 100 million units in 2006,” Chief Executive Jorma Ollila told a Nokia conference in Spain.
That’s right, Nokia announced it plans on selling a staggering 100,000,000 of the SmartPhones in 2006, over the already impressive number of 40 million they’ve sold in 2005.
Ollila, the CEO of Nokia made a number of impressive statements during the Nokia conference in spain. Notable were:
1) Nokia plans on moving 100,000,000 camera phones in 2006
2) By 2009, 75% of all phones will have cameras in them
Ollila also went to into great details concerning Nokia’s aggressive plans for its “N” series of phones.
1) The N71 will be a “true internet device” with an emphasis on a larger screen
2) The N80 series will share video and photos through the consumer’s TV set - it will also offer WiFi access available through hotspots
3) The N92 will be a mobile TV set with a 2.8″ screen
