Good question!
GPON is the acronym for “Gigabit Passive Optical Network ” and IP Video over Wireless Broadband.
Motorola (MOT) is aggressively working to develop this technology to provide more personalized wireless services including on demand video services, high definition video and a unified platform for cellular and traditional Land line communications.
It’s hard to believe how much cell phones have changed since their introduction in the early 90’s. The first versions were bulky, heavy and required an actual charger. The only task it could complete was a phone call. Today’s phones serve as a text messaging centers, Email programs, MP3 players, cameras..
With technology always making leaps and bounds forward, it is easy to see why Motorola is looking to evolve right along with it. Providing more products and services to the end consumer very rarely backfires.
I look forward to hearing more about this emerging technology..
