VOIP is on its’ way to cell phones according to recent news reports. In order to make VOIP phone calls, users would be switched over seemlessly to a WiFi hotspot, if one’s available.

For years, Wi-Fi telephones and walkie-talkie-like communicators have been available for hospitals and offices. Now, manufacturers and mobile carriers are preparing to link standard cellular networks to the mishmash of Wi-Fi hotspots, a move that will expand coverage and perhaps make cheaper mobile minutes a reality.

There you have it. In ways, this could be the moment everyone has been waiting for. Cheap mobile phones with unlimited Wi-Fi access. People will no longer be chained to desks anymore and traditional lifestyles and work situations are coming to end. Unlicensed Mobile Access is in its’ infancy stages, but the changes wrought will likely be far-reaching.
