May 16, 2006 – 6:19 pm

Nokia has announced a dealto offer Google Talk instant messaging to its’ cell phone customers. Google is a huge leader in search, but is not a big player in instant messaging compared to larger rivals.

The deal between Finnish-based Nokia and Web search leader Google Inc. (GOOG.O: Quote, Profile, Research) allows people to chat with other users of instant-messaging software via the Nokia Wi-Fi device, which relies on short-range wireless networks.

Google has been pushing into wireless in a big way, and the strategy with Google Talk is to ink deals with the major cell makers and have them do the marketing. The Nokia 770 Internet Tablet has been selling for one month, with units being described as “selling well”.
