California One Step Closer to Banning Cell Phone Use When Driving

May 28, 2006 – 8:22 pm

I’ve always thought that people talking on their cell phones while driving endangered others.

The state of California is inching closer to outlawing handheld cell phone use when driving.
The bill was approved 21-14 last Thursday.

Driver's Doing Everything Else but Driving
I hate seeing people doing everything else but driving

Handsfree device use won’t be prohibited.

This legislation goes into affect in 2008. First Violations will cost $20.00, repeat violations will cost drivers $50.00. So if you live in sunny California, it might be worth picking up a handsfree set if you don’t want to return a phone call or pullover to the side of the road to take call.

I’m all for this movement, if it helps prevent even 1 car accident. People need to focus at the task at hand, and that should be driving if they’re at the wheel.
