New standards are being set to making mobile internet browsing easier
June 27, 2006 – 5:51 amCompanies are clammering for more people to use their mobile phones to access the internet. The phones are basically capable, but now new standards will help push the technology through. Currently, only 19% of mobile phone users in the US use their phones to browse the internet.
The members of the W3C, the main ruling body of web standards met to address the issues that prevent more people from surfing the mobile net:
“The majority of Web sites out there do not work well on cell phones,” he said, adding that if more Web sites were less awkward to navigate on cell phones, they could attract more users
The biggest problems facing web developers making mobile friendly designs:
- The small size of the screen
- Mobile phones do not allow cookies, so authentication is a problem.
Here’s a way to make any site fit on a mobile browser. Any design which strips graphics is a big boon to help making the site display correctly.
