Podcasting is getting bigger every day, and Alltel is now getting in on the act. The price of phone calls is going down across the board, and Alltel is doing what all carriers are doing these days: looking for ways to squeeze additional revenue out of existing customers. The podcasting streaming service will run customers $3.99 per month.

Listening to podcasts via desktop computers or iPods has become popular, particularly among young people, but it is not clear how quickly the trend will spread to cellphones, according to Jupiter Research analyst Julie Ask.

Podcast popularity is large enough for them to try and market to the crowd. Chances are, there will be a number of customers who will adopt the service, especially those in the IT field.
