Nokia and Qualcomm have had a bitter relationship, with both sides at odds concerning cell phone technology. Now Nokia wants the courts to make Qualcomm live up to written obligations. Qualcomm and Nokia have been at odds for years about the very technology that allows cell phone calls to be made.

“Qualcomm has filed three separate legal actions against Nokia in U.S. Federal Court, a court in the United Kingdom and the U.S. International Trade Commission where it has requested injunctions against Nokia,” Nokia said.

There’s a lot at stake: namely the global cell phone business which is an amazing growth machine, especially for Nokia, who remains the world’s number one cell phone maker, despite intense competition from Motorola, Samsung, and others.

Qualcomm has been under a veritable barrage of lawsuits. The dispute over the GSM technology licensing promises to take some time to resolve.
