Verizon Wireless Completes 30 Million Switch in Southfield, Michigan

Verizon Wireless announced that they recently opened a 30 million dollar MTOS (Mobile Telephone Switching Office) in Southfield, Michigan.

This switching office is over 21,000 square feet and will house the electronics that run Verizon’s network across the region.

“Our MTSO is the lifeline to much of our network across metropolitan Detroit,” said Jacque Vallier, executive director of network- Michigan/Indiana/Kentucky Region, Verizon Wireless. “Every call and data connection made and received by our customers in this MTSO’s geographic area is processed within this facility.”

This new facility is equipped with a 1.5 megawatt diesel generator with 10,000 gallons of fuel.
This backup can provide power for up to seven days. There are two more MTSO’s in the works in this same geographical area.
