Mobile phone theft is now a common problem for all the countries in the world- rich or poor. The users are helpless as it is very difficult for the police to find a stolen phone set for lack of information. However, this is changing at least in one place- Scotland. There is actually now a website to help the police and the users to fight with mobile phone theft. www.immobilise.com is the website and I suggest that all of you visit this website. To give you a good idea about the activity of this website, I am quoting from a report of the daily record:

AN INTERNET database has been launched in Scotland to combat mobile phone thefts.

The National Mobile Phone Register enables owners to list details of their handsets with the police.

The register is designed to deter both petty thieves and organised gangs from stealing mobiles.

It will also give people a better chance of getting their phone back if it is lost or stolen.

Mobile phone users can now log on to www.immobilise.com and register their handset’s unique 15-digit International Mobile Equipment Identity serial number, which is printed on or underneath the battery, free of charge.

I visited the website and found that it is not just about mobile phone. People can also report about other items like cameras, iPods, laptops, PCs etc. The information of the website is also available in Welsh language. It is helping the police to fight with mobile phone theft. Especially, when the police recover any cell phone set from the criminals the police can easily trace the real owner of the set from this website. It will be nice if all the mobile phone users in England register their sets in this website.

This is just an example of how Internet can be used for good purposes.
