Brazil going towards 100 Million Cell Phones

September 18, 2006 – 3:12 pm

100 million cell phone users- that is an elite club and right now the members of this club are:

China

US

Russia

India

Brazil is going to join this club soon- may be with the next 4 months. In August 2006, this figure was 94.9 million in August. I am quoting from a report of Easybourse.com:

The number of Brazilians owning mobile phones rose to 94.9 million in August, up 2% from July, according to preliminary figures released Monday by telecommunications regulator Anatel.

Brazilian mobile phone ownership rose more than 20% when compared with September of 2005, when the number of mobile phones was 78.9 million.

Brazil has nearly 182.8 million population. So, this figure can grow for the next few months very easily. I am happy that Brazilian government has allowed this sector to flourish in this country. If you are know about the recent history of Brazil then you should know that Brazil was not exactly a prosperous country. However, this is changing and Brazil is developing. I wonder if high teledensity contributed behind it or not.
