Let’s say you have come to see a friend of yours who has been hospitalized. Suddenly, you remembered that you have to call some one. No problem, you have your mobile phone!!! But wait, mobile phone can not be used inside hospital. So what you would do? You would get out of the building and make a call. Till now, this has been the situation. Now, a report published in British Medical Journal, opposes the idea that mobile phones are threatening to both the hospital equipments and patients health.

The writers of the article, Dr. Stuart Derbyshire and Dr. Adam Burgess say that the idea the mobile phones are threatening to equipments is an outdated idea. According to the report published in BBC:

“They cite research which found phones could interfere in a non-harmful way with 4% of medical devices, compared to 41% for emergency services’ handsets and 35% for those carried by porters.

They add: “Mobile phones arrived in an age when safety concerns were high and various restrictions were imposed - for example bans on beef during the Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) scare.

“Mobile phones are an easy target in a precautionary climate that demands proof something is not dangerous rather than grounds that it is.”

Now days, the only function of mobile phone is not just calling friends but also one can listen to songs, news, or play games. I think the patients can really use mobile phones to spend their time in the hospital.

So, let us come back to the original question. Cell phones: good or bad in hospitals? I think that cell phones should be allowed in the clinics. There should be a set of rules about the usage of cell phone sets inside the hospitals so that everyone can get benefited.
