Yes, China can certainly have another 443 million of mobile phone subscribers as the country has more than 1 billion people. China has the fastest economic growth in the world. China is the only country in the world that could sustain double digit economic growth for many years. According to Chinese Ministry of Information Industry, China had nearly 443 million of mobile phone subscribers by the end of September 2006.
This year, in the first nine months (January-September), there has been an increase of nearly 49.75 million new subscribers- 5.53 million new subscribers on an average per month. Still, most people in China do not have a mobile phone connection.
In the first nine months of the year, China’s mobile phone subscribers increased by 49.75 million. That is a whopping 5.53 million new subscribers per month.
Fixed-line subscriptions are growing much more slowly, 2.10 million per month in the first three quarters. The country now has 369 million fixed-line phone subscribers.
For every 100 Chinese, there are now 33.9 mobile phones and 28.3 fixed-line phones.
The telecommunications sector posted revenue of 479.93 billion yuan (60.75 billion U.S. dollars) in the first nine months of the year, up 11.3 percent year on year.
So, you can see that less than 40% of Chinese population have mobile phone connections. Well, in Asian standard, the rate is quite good. Chinese government realized the value of mobile phones in the right time. We sometimes hear that mobile phones can help to increase GDP. The Chinese example is perhaps one of the best ones in this regard. I wish that other Asian countries could understand the value of mobile phones like the Chinese government.
