A P903i handset, soon to be offered in Japan, offers cell phone owners extra peice of mind with added security that protects against theft and unauthorized use.

The phone comes with a card about the size of a ticket stub that can be kept in a purse or back pocket. When the handset gets too far away from the card, the phone automatically locks and can’t be used. The owner can select at what distance it becomes disabled, at 26, 66 or 130 feet away from the card.

GPS can also be used to locate the lost or stolen phone at a cost of $2.50 for each recovery search. There are a number of other security features like facial recognition for those that wish to put further security measures into place.

No word on the price of this security driven phone, but it’s expected to be for sale in the next couple of months in Japan.

Is this a feature that you’d like to have on your handfree cell phone?
