Last Friday, the number of mobile phone users has crossed forty million. This is big news for the South Korean mobile industry. I am quoting from the report published in YONHAP NEWS:

The number of mobile phone users in South Korea has exceeded a record 40 million for the first time, industry sources said Sunday.

SK Telecom Co., KTF and LG Telecom Ltd. said that as of Friday they had slightly more than 40.01 million people in the country with registered mobile phones. This number was reached 22 years after analogue-type mobile phone service was first introduced in 1984 and 10 years after the country switched to the code division multiple access (CDMA) system.

In the beginning, when mobile phones were introduced in South Korea, there were only 2,658 mobile phone users. Since then the number of users just increased lips and bounds.

South Korean people are very enthusiastic about mobile phones. Their attitude toward mobile phone is the main reason behind success. Despite being an expensive device, after every twenty one months, South Koreans change their mobile phones. South Korean people always buy phones produced by their domestic companies like Samsung and LG. This is the most crucial factor behind these companies success.

The thing I like about South Korea is that its government, universities and the companies give a lot of importance to world class research on new technology.
