Carnival Cruise Ships Adds Wireless Service To Their Funships
December 14, 2006 – 11:47 amNow if you’re planning a cruise, you don’t have to lose access to your cell phone.
Carnival Cruiseships recently announced the addition of wireless services to all 21 of their “Fun Ships.” This will allow all passengers aboard their ships to send and receive text messages, make and receive phone calls, and keep in touch with friends and family on land.
This is being made possible by an agreement made between Carnival and Wireless Maritime Services (WMS), which is a joint venture between Cingular Wireless and Maritime Telecommunications Network. Guests with Blackberries, cell phones or other similiar devices can communicate freely while they are at sea.
“Since we launched cell phone service last summer, response has been excellent. Our guests are making maximum use of the opportunity to utilize this convenient and cost-effective means for keeping in touch with friends, family members and business associates back home,” said Bob Dickinson, Carnival president and CEO.
This service is comapatible with just about any cellular phone and doesn’t require special software or dialing codes. Best of all.. this service is free! They also provide anumber of wi-fi hotspots for guests that are using laptops on their vacations.
