  • Serves as a LED flashlight, in case you need a little light in the darkness.
  • Has a stopwatch, so you can time your sprints.
  • Works with V-Cast services to download music, video clips or other mobile content.
  • Has GPS for your navigational needs (service costs extra.) so you don’t have to get lost again.

    3. I own a Casio G’z one and have found it to be an outstanding phone the battery life last as long as I
need it to and it doesn’t die quickly when you’re in an area that has no signal at all like my old phone
did, The fact that I can’t do voice notes as on my old phone is a little bad but nothing I can’t live with
—————LOVE THE PHONE and right after I got mine 5 of my military friends went out and got one too————————–Keep up the good work Casio and you too Verizon

    4. I own a GZ however they sold it to me as being blue tooth ready, not quite yet, wondering when the new blue tooth one is coming out. Love the phone, hate corded head sets, Construction work is dusty, wet and hard on phones.

    6. Phone ok, battery does not live up to how it is advertised, only 1 hour talk time, we are returninging it today.

By Wendy on May 30, 2007

    7. Wendy, if you got 1 hour talk time, you either got a bad battery or you did not follow the instructions on fully discharging and then fully charging the new battery at least twice to condition it for maximum service time.

    8. After sending several Razr’s through the wash and killing several LG’s by dropping on the pavement, I think I have found a phone that can take some abuse. It’s a big, heavy, sturdy phone that I will notice before loading the washing machine.
No problem with the battery after conditioning as Frank mentions above. Love the phone!

    10. The G’z One is great but the only problem is that I cant download ringtones from anything but the applications that come with the phone. Everyone else I know is dowloading stuff from the internet with no problems but I cant. I can only save a download to sounds and I cant use any of the sounds as a ringtone. Is there anyway to download the files to ringtones?

    12. i own a G’zOne
i was down at the docks one night with my buddies and dropped in the lake. i dove down to get it but it was too dark…it was at least ten feet under the water. we called it and i could hear it ringing but we didnt have goggles so that was useless. the next day…about 14 hours after i dropped it in..i went down to the same spot with some goggles..got my phone and brought it home..i plugged it in to the charger..and it worked fine! good as new

they should prob change the 3 feet for 30 min… to 10 feet for 14 hours

      fone is so sik
      buy it

    13. can i get one for canada?

By jaye on Jun 27, 2007

    14. I bought one a couple weeks ago and the first day I had it I dropped it about 35 feet off a roof into an asphalt parking lot. Aside from a couple scratches you’d never even notice. The battery doesn’t last quite as long as I’d like, but I usually manage to get two days to a charge. All in all? I love it!

    15. I work in the oil&gas bussiness, is this phone certified for explosion proof?

By kor on Jul 28, 2007

    16. I bought mine last week and mistakenly placed it in a fruitcake that my wife was about to bake. After 2 hours in the oven at 425 Fahrenheit, I remembered and took it out. The cake was too hot to touch so I left it on the dining room table for a minute and walked away just before my starving llama ate the whole thing! After following my llama around for half a day and feeding him espresso, bran muffins, and yayo, he finally crapped it out. First thing I did was grab the phone out of the pile and called my verizon rep to tell him that they’re doing a great job!

By Frank Dux on Jul 31, 2007

    17. Only have had my G’z One for a few days, but I love it. I am a little disappointed with the battery life , but I have been playing with it a lot so I can’t determine yet how long it truly lasts. Also, I as well, have been unable to download ringtones from any site other than what is offered on my phone downloads. Then it does not offer the ringback tones. Even the Verizon website does not have this phone listed for downloads?????

By Tina on Aug 21, 2007

    18. For ringtones try the following:
Find a mp3 file on your pc. It needs to be short, less than 20 seconds.
Create a new folder on your pc’s C drive or evan a flash drive, call it Ring tones, something you will remember.
Copy the mp3 file to the new folder.
After you copy the file, change the extension from .mp3 to .mid.
Send your phone an email using your phone number xxx xxx xxxx@vzwpix.com. with the the renamed ringtone (.mid) as the attachment.
Once the phone has recieved it, save the sound
Good luck, this worked on my daughters Ver phone that”only you can get ring tones from Verizon”

    19. I have the G-z and love it. How do I get pictures off it onto my PC?

By Bill on Aug 30, 2007

    20. After reading the comments of Mr. Frank Dux, I immediately went to Verizonwireless.com and purchased my very own G’zOne. I too have a llama.

      By MIKE B on Sep 4, 2007

    21. My above comments were made before purchasing, I should say signing up for another 2 years w/Ver, so mine was a no charge upgrade.
I had researched the type S as I thought the bluetooth would be better but it appears to be a downgrade.
Although this phone is huge by most phone standards I like it.
I just loaded the Datapilot software which I had found on another discussion about this phone.
If you were to ask Ver tech, they would tell you their system is the only way to move pics and sounds. WRONG
I orderd the software @$39.95 ship as a pkg (CD cable) specifically for the Gzone.
Loading the software was easy, as per suggestions of other users I did a driver update BEFORE  I tried using it.
Once the update was loaded and I went thru the driver installation process I was pleased to find out it does work.
I loaded mp3 and mid files directly onto the phone(not as sounds)
I tried the photo dl from the phone to pc, worked smooth.
The phone book backup feature worked but without the speed dial numbers. In the faq this topic is described and there are settings you must not mess with in order to keep the pc and phone reading the same info.

    22. Great phone ! Just no ring tone available wich SUCKS !

By Kahula on Sep 22, 2007

    23. Along with being able to load ringtones or pictures directly from my pc to the phone, the cable that came with the software charges the phone. (Datapilot software)

You can’t add “sounds” to the phone from the pc, but you can add them as an email attachment by:

Copy the mp3 file to the new folder.
After you copy the file, change the extension from .mp3 to .mid.
Send your phone an email using your phone number xxx xxx xxxx@vzwpix.com. with the the renamed ringtone (.mid) as the attachment.

The file will end up in the sound folder of the phone which is not the same folder as the ringtones.

Using the Datapilot software eliminates any Verizon charges when adding ringtones.

There are many sites that offer free sound clips in mp3 format that can be used as ringtones.

The only negative I’ve found about my phone is that the compass feature is not loaded/working.
I spoke with UTStarcom who handles the service on this phone and they said it was only available on some of the early shipments but is not an avaliable option.

    25. Not to happy with the G’z One Type S phone that I went to Verizon and purchased from the store in Deptford NJ. I told the sales associate that I have a nextell i850 and i’m not happy with the dropped calls, bad reception, and the fact that if and when I do have a legitamite problem with the phone that needs to be repaired they never ever have one in stock.
So the sales associate showed me the only comparable phone to the i850 as far as military specs for dust, water etc. I work in construction, and the fire service.
The speaker phone portion “SUCKS” you have absolutely no volume control over it and it is set way to low to even understand what the caller is saying to you from inside a sealed vehicle with the windows up radio off and air on really really low. The earbud that I got has no volume control either, once again set really really low alomst impossible to hear while driving down the road. Was better off just putting the phone up to my ear to hear the conversation that I was trying to have.
The call block doesn’t work on this phone either. Ring tone selection sucks really bad, my nexhell had about thirteen tones befoer it went into the polyphonic bullshit ringers. this $300 phone only came with three ringers. Kinda sucks. When I’m talking on the regular ear piece part if teh phone it sounds like the person on theother end of the phone is calling me from inside a fifty gallon drum with the lid on it.
The blue tooth doesn’t link to my Dell notebook, it’ll find the notebook but never actually pair up with it. So I can’t even transfer any pictures or ring tones.
ALL IN ALL I DO NOT THINK THIS PHONE IS THAT GREAT. ESPECIALLY NOT FOR THE $3OO PRICE TAG ON THE PHONE.

By Nexhell on Oct 1, 2007

    26. I got the phone and love it, EXCEPT the battery life. Sometimes It’ll last for two weeks, and other times it’ll last 1 day!! I’ve already exchanged it once, but I started getting the same problems with the new phone.

By Gaspar on Oct 31, 2007

    27. Just got the later version (with the “loop” antenna on the back, at the hinge). Seems to work fine. I’m getting more than two day battery life, but recharging when the battery is down to two “cells” - that means every other day, or every third day.

Mine is dark blue, but my sales rep showed me a photo of a new skin that is out, or will be soon - Maroon front, gold battery - Redskins!

I’ve been trying to find an extended life battery for it, with no luck. Anybody know how to get one?

I ordered a “battery only” charger. When it came it fit the old style battery, not the one on this version.

I could charge the extra battery while installed … but that sort of defeats the purpose of an extra battery.

I don’t use much talk time a month for personal business, but I am in a rural rescue squad, and eventually a long call will come up with lots of talk time needed.

By Mike McL on Nov 16, 2007

    28. My question is on my phone there appears to be no way to turn the ringer up very loud. My previous verizon phone could go from silent, vibrate then up a numbered scale 1 - 7. 7 was very loud, never went that high but with the new GZ when I have it on high it is not very loud at all. Not sure if I could even hear it driving in my car with the radio off.

    29. my husband got one for work and was wondering what it means when a little phone with an antenna shows up on the bottom of the screen. He is convinced that he is being monitored or something. Please let me know so i can ease his fears, lol

By Lori on Nov 29, 2007

    30. Lori,

I have the G’z One, Type S (as in Sam). If your husband has a type S, try this:

Press “End” to reset back to start point.

Press center dot (shiny metal), to get Menu

Press right 2 times. you should be at Settings & Tools.

Press 9 to get Phone Info.

Press 3 to get Icon Glossary.

Scroll down or up the glossary by pressing up or down (duh!).

There are at least 3 icons showing the little cell phone. One of those should match your husband’s icon.

When you have figured it out, press Clear to go back one step at a time, or End to jump back.

By Mike McL on Nov 29, 2007

    31. Batteries for the type S:

There is no extended battery for this phone, as of 27 Nov 2007.

The independent battery charger that works for the type V does not work for type S batteries.

There are spare batteries available for the type S. I ordered one through a Circuit City Verizon desk on 25 Nov, and it arrived 28 Nov. I had it FedEx’d to the store, since I live in a rural area and it is not safe to deliver expensive items at our house.

The spare batteries come in Navy blue, Maroon, and Gold … and maybe more. I have a blue phone, so I got a red (Maroon) spare, just to keep track of which battery is in use.

The only way I can charge it is to install it in the phone.

For the time being, my plan is to charge RED fully tonight, then put BLUE back in the phone. I will use BLUE until it runs flat, but have RED with me. RED may lose some charge while waiting, but I hope it will be at least 3 “Cells” full in the charge status icon. That night I’ll reinstall BLUE, charge it overnight, replace it with RED in the morning, keep BLUE with me, etc. etc.

If the spare loses too much while waiting I may have to modify this plan. Both batteries should have maximum life by being fully discharged each time before reuse.

      JMHO, YMMV. Suggestions are welcome.

    32. iGo CHARGER

I travel with cell phone, PDA, and digital camera that uses rechargeable NiMH batteries. I have two “iGo” charging systems, one a complete set, the other just an in-car/in-cigarette lighter charger.

The iGo system is sold by Radio Shack. You purchase a system, and get one free “tip” with each system. The tip matches the iGo charger to your rechargeable whatsit. I had an nTelos/Motorola cell phone which I replaced with the Casio/Verizon G’z One type S. I had two iGo type A10 tips which fit the old cell phone.

Guess what. iGo does not make a tip to fit the Casio/Verizon G’z One type S. In fact, iGo does not make a tip to fit ANY Casio device.

      BUMMER!

I suggest/request/plead that anyone reading this blog contact iGo and request that they make a tip to fit your Casio phone. If enough of us do it, they might actually add to their inventory.

Also, go to your friendly Radio Shack and whine, ever so politely, until the store’s manager agrees to buck the request up their chain of command.

If you can’t find iGo with Google, or some equivalent, let me know and I’ll dig up the URL and phone numbers. :???:

    33. Lori, Tell your husband that if he was given a phone from his employer and it is on the Verizon network they very well may have the Chaperone feature active on the phone that they gave him, I have never heard of anyone being able to tell when this feature is activated. Also ask him to look at the phone if the icon that you are talking about matches the one on the (star/asteriks) key lower left next to the 0 key. Then he might have activated the “Vibrate Only” feature. All he will have to do is hold down that button and it should restore it back to the normal ring functions of the phone. Hope this helps you out.

By George on Nov 30, 2007

    34. Consumer Reports, January 2008 edition, has the type S as their pick for best cell phone. Also rates companies, gives Verizon the best, narrowly ahead of T-Mobile and Alltel. Of course I live in none of the cities where they rate the service.

Matt, maybe the reason the type S is quiet is that it is very hard to make a loudspeaker waterproof, or even just water resistant.

By Mike McL on Nov 30, 2007

    35. Also trying to find iGo tips. Person at Verizon said she charged her Type S with the charger for the LG VX8300. She plugged in the Type S charger to her LG and the bars were flashing for charge. I have not had a chance to get the tip yet.

By Jon on Dec 3, 2007

    36. Above comment, I meant another employee’s LG was charged with the Type S charger.

By Jon on Dec 3, 2007

    37. Got a 2d battery for my Type S. Chose a different color (Maroon, my “S” is dark blue), glad I did, helps me keep them straight. Easy to change. I’m taking the “working” (in the phone) battery down to one cell in the battery icon, then switching the other one in.

      Works for me, YMMV

By Mike McL on Dec 8, 2007

    38. I picked up a Type V some time ago. I can tell you that the phone takes a beating. What I would like to know from anyone is where can I get a new face plate? I was watching “Fast and Furious-Tokyo Drift” with my kids yesterday (snow-day)and noticed that the kid with the green, “Hulk car” was using one with a wild looking green face plate. Where can you get these?

By Mark on Dec 14, 2007

    39. This is a great phone but, the instructions for setting up the Voice Command are very vague compared to my three year old LG. I somehow was prompted to the voice train function but, when I wanted to re-train it… none of the menu prompts would take me to a setup mode.

I sure wish Verizon had an on-line addendum to clear up this issue.

By Paul on Dec 22, 2007

    40. Just received one of these phone and I’ve been using it for about a week. Every call is accompanied by fuzzy white noise. It annoys me and those I’m talking to. Is this a defective phone, or have others noticed the fuzz? If others have experienced this, I’ll order another model. IF not, a replacement is in order…

By Tim on Dec 26, 2007

    41. Tim, you must have a bad connection, or defective phone, I have had mine since late September early October and have not had a problem with what you are describing at all. My only two complaints are the wired ear piece is hard to hear the other person and the speaker for the speakerphone is not loud at all. You can barely hear the other party while driving in a virtually quiet vehicle, but if they are the only two drawbacks of having a phone that you can get really really wet, then so be it. I have a friend that builds retaining walls and also does ponds so forth and so on, he dropped his into about four feet of water at the end of the day, didn’t realize it till he got home an hour and a half away from the job site, went back the next day looked into the pond and could see the light on the front of the phone come on when he was reaching in for it telling him that he had missed calls, messages, and voice mail waiting……………THE PHONE STILL WORKS AND IT’S BEEN A FEW MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By George on Dec 27, 2007

    42. Lovely phone, just what I want, but why can’t you buy it in Britain?

By Karl Grosvenor on Jan 21, 2008

    43. unfortunately the audio quality is less than adequate and most marked when speaking to folks for whom English is not a primary language. Then you have to resort to a landline connection. In addition volume connection too easy to change inadvertly into the off mode. Didn’t have these problems with my old Motorola Tracfone.

By james on Mar 17, 2008

    44. I ordered a replacement and the audio quality still sucks. It’s not the network, it’s the phone!

By tim on Mar 17, 2008

    45. I used to have an LG, that I kept on extended network permenantly (not an issue for these phones and not an issue for Verizon since we never went over our minutes for logging purposes). Where I live and work is apparently too close to the Verizon cell tower and my signal become very low to the point of dropping several calls. Does anyone know of a way to make this happen on this phone? I like the phone and the Verizon signal is better than the LG, but it would be awesome if I could force it to extended network.

By sarah on Mar 31, 2008

    46. I’ve had mine for over a year now. That’s beyond a record for me! I have three kids, and the poor phone has been in teh cereal, the tub, the toilet, the cake batter (not in this order), and it still works. When my husband comes due for an upgrade, He’s getting one. (But he’ll have to settle for an S, because we can’t FIND V’s anymore. I love it!!
Plan to keep it for a long time! Got mine last april or may, and It’s running strong. (Note, I got one with a bad battery, so they switched it out, and no complaints anymore.) It’s awesome!
