China may have a communist government but it is actively promoting the use of mobile phones. There is a close relationship with mobile phones and increase in GDP. I am sure that Chinese government officials have realized it and are trying to invest heavily on th4e expansion of the use of mobile phones. China Central Television, the official media of China has launched a new mobile phone television service. I am quoting from the report published in ChinaTechNews:

China’s official media outlet CCTV has formally launched a mobile phone television service in cooperation with China Mobile (CHA) and China Unicom (CHU), the two major mobile service operators in the country.

CCTV and China Unicom say that they will work together on wireless new media, including mobile phone television, and enter a strategic partnership in reporting and broadcasting the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. According to their agreement, China Unicom will be responsible for providing all the necessary network equipment, service platform, user services, marketing channels and technical support, and CCTV shall be in charge of content creation, management and review.

In this new service, the mobile users will be able to watch their favorite Olympic matches through on demand downloading.

Olympic Games is one of the biggest sports events in the world. It is a great honor for China. Along with large number of local people there will be many foreigners who would come here to enjoy the games they would also use the mobile service. Hence, this whole project looks very profitable.

So, Olympic 2008 is going to be a great event for many of the visitors as they would have easy access to television programs on their mobile phone sets. I wish I could go to China on 2008.
