Chess isn’t an easy game, especially at the Championship level.

Indian chess player, Umakant Sharma hit the chess circuit like wildfire and amassed a number of ranking points over the past 18 months, much to the chagrin of seasoned chess players. Umakant even received enough to qualify him for the national championships, but his dreams of becoming the champion came to a quick halt when officials spotted a Bluetooth device stitched into his ballcap.

Using the wireless device, Mr. Sharma communicated with his accomplices outside the hall, who then used a computer to relay moves to him, Indian chess federation secretary D.V. Sundar said on Wednesday.

This “chess move” cost him a 10 year ban and is also a warning to other “tech savvy” chess players to play their best, without the assistance of friends or computer programs.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think cell phones make it easier for people to cheat?
