It might come as surprising news to some, but LG electronics is now number two in phone sold in the United States. The runaway success of the LG Chocolate had a lot to do with this, as well as some other models that outperformed.

n addition to increasing shipment market share in the North America to 17.2 percent in all technologies, LG increased its dominance in the global handset market, once again securing the number one spot for global CDMA sales for the quarter. Global CDMA sales for LG were 10.5 million units vaulting LG to 23.5 percent market share worldwide.

“As LG Mobile Phones continues to produce innovative handsets that meet the demand of the current consumer marketplace, we are proud to have secured the number two spot for phone shipments in North America,” said Juno Cho, president, LG Electronics MobileComm U.S.A. Inc. “LG’s CDMA sales have maintained strong momentum in the third quarter of 2006 and our steady expansion into the GSM market is being met with encouraging results. A testament to this tremendous growth is our relentless dedication as a company to offer consumers the most innovative and technologically advanced wireless communication devices, such as our global sensation Chocolate, that enhance their lifestyle.”
