People Hang On To Their Cell Phone Numbers

For people who have managed to hang onto their cell phone numbers, it’s a feature they won’t relinquish without a fight. In fact, many folks these days have had cell phone numbers for years, despite the fact they’ve moved multiple times in between. They might hang onto their phone in order to feel like they’re part of something bigger.

At 27, Klaiman has called South Florida home for six years. But her 713 area code connects to her Texas hometown.

“I’ve had this number since I was 16,” says Klaiman, a lawyer. “I still hear from high school and college friends who call me out of the blue. Everybody has a cell phone so it’s not long distance. Everybody knows it’s the best way to keep in contact with people.”

The phenomena occurs much more than you expected, with some people even thinking their area code just “screams” cool. There’s an entire generation of people out there holding on to old cell phone numbers.
