Google Not Making GPhone, According To Analyst
March 23, 2007 – 12:19 pmThe GPhone is a unicorn, according to a Piper Jaffray analyst. For many months, speculation has been running rampant that the search engine giant would enter the cell phone arena with their own, low-cost Google branded phone. But this is probably not the case.

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster said in a research note to clients that Google appears to be building software for Web search on cell phones and location-finding services to work with Apple Inc.’s (AAPL.O: Quote, Profile, Research) iPhone and other cell phones.
“We believe Google is working with, not against, Apple in the mobile world,” Munster said.
In recent months, various reports have described how Web search leader Google could be developing a “Gphone” — a low-cost, Internet-connected phone with a color, wide-screen design. Newspaper and blog reports in recent months have Google shopping its phone design to potential cell phone manufacturing partners in Asia.
Google certainly has no experience with consumer products, so it wouldn’t be hard to believe this theory is credible. Speculation is heating up, as Google remains coy on the subject.
Do you think Google is creating the GPhone?
