Vodafone recently announced plans to release two ultra low cost mobile phones sold under the Vodafone brand name. They are the result of a partnership with Chinese manufacturer ZTE Corporation. These cell phones will be offered as a low cost alternative to mobile phones from Motorola and Nokia.
They are aimed at emerging cell phone markets like India and Africa.

The Vodafone 225
The Vodafone 125 and the Vodafone 225 are second generation (2G) phones that will sell for between $25.00 - $45.00, depending on the market and the model number.
Reliance Communications, based in India recently released low cost phones and have sold a million units since their introduction on May 2, 2007.
Vodaphone made it clear that they were trying to establish themselves as a cell phone brand and that partly stems from a desire to have more control over design and functionality than the top vendors have been willing to give it.
