Could Battery Problems Mar iPhone Sales?
June 11, 2007 – 12:58 pmOne thing that every consumer needs to “keep on talking” (or browsing or surfing the web) is a powerful battery in their cell phone.
Just like iPhones sister product, the iPod, the rechargeable battery is internal and is said to be able to dish up 5 hours talking, surfing the web or watching downloaded content. Like all
rechargeable batteries, the phone will only be able to be charged until the battery gives way and needs to be replaced, which requires a service call for repair.
What isn’t factored in is the extra power that the iPhone uses for bluetooth or heavy wi-fi use on top of ordinary phone calls. Excessive use of the phone will drain battery power at a faster rate, which could leave consumers without a charging station and a dead battery.
The iPhone runs on an EDGE network, which is slower than the growing 3G network. Access
to this network runs around $40.00 monthly for data, that doesn’t include a calling plan that will cost another $40.00 monthly. The smartphone itself will retail for between $500.00- $600.00.
The iPhone is available on June 29, 2007.
