iPhone Saves Golfer’s Life

In an unlikely story, 53 year old Irwin Koss of DeWitt, New York was saved by his iPhone. Not with a phone call or with life saving information, but by deflecting a golf ball that hit him in his chest.

The Life Saving iPhone

Mr. Koss was afraid to leave his valuable iPhone unattended in the golf cart, so instead he put the device in his shirtpocket. He was in direct line with a friends oncoming golf ball on the seventh hole.

“I thought I was out of the way enough,” he said, “but I guess not.” The drive from his companion’s 3 wood struck him in the side. According to The Physics of Golf page at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, golf balls can reach speeds of greater than 100 miles per hour in the hands of experienced golfers. That’s fast enough to do plenty damage and Mr. Koss was left with some ugly black and blue bumps and bruises. But the consequences could have been far worse.

The iPhone was totally destroyed. “It didn’t work at all,” said Mr. Koss.

Seems the new phone wasn’t under warranty so he got to pay for a replacement phone at AT&T the following day.
