One thing that’s nice about cell phones is the fact that you can make phone calls to anyone, at anytime from anywhere. Even if you’re in another country - but caveat emptor- these International phone calls can rack up substantial charges, in some cases in the multiple thousands of dollars.
Recently a military couple recieved a six thousand dollar phone bill for phone calls made while the husband served overseas. They had an international calling plan through AT&T, but what they didn’t realize was that it cost $1.99 a minute for them to talk. They are currently contesting the charges and trying to come an agreement with AT&T.
This is not an isolated incident and the moral is - before you go dialing frivolously when your outside of your home country, contact your mobile phone provider to clarify their billing policies on these types of phone calls to avoid a disastrous mobile phone bill in 30 days. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
