Microsoft Launching Zune Phone

Not one to get behind the curve, rumor has it that Microsoft is going to launch a rival to the Apple iPhone - The Zune phone.

The Zune phone will combine multimedia applications, like offering a camera and a music player as well as being able to make phone calls.

“It wouldn’t be unreasonable to think at some point there might some integrated thing,” Mindy Mount, chief financial officer of Microsoft’s entertainment and devices division, told investors at Citigroup’s global technology conference.

So far, Microsoft has focused on providing a mobile Windows platform for other mobile phone manufacturers, but they’ve realized the potential of making their own handsets and using their own mobile platform to their benefit.

It will be interesting to see a Zune phone on the market soon. There was no official word on when consumers might expect to see Zune mobile phone hitting retailer’s shelves.
