AT&T recently announced that they have suspended their Smart limits parental control service after finding that the program had a glitch that could cut off a subscriber’s ability to call 911 in the case of an emergency.

During a routine review of the service, AT&T discovered that if restricted users were disconnected during their 911 call, that the 911 operator was blocked from calling back the phone.

This prompted AT&T to temporarily suspend the service until they can come up with a resolution to the problem. Other parental control features such as setting restrictions on the mobile Web or downloadable content are not affected by the program suspension.

AT&T plans on reintroducing the ‘Smart Limits’ service as soon as possible, but they aren’t willing to jeopardize subscribers safety while they work out the glitch.
