Cell Phone Sniffing Dogs

You’ve heard of drug sniffing dogs no doubt. They’re the canines who find illicit drugs through their highly developed sense of smell. Well now a Philadelphia jail is using a dog named Bomber to sniff out cell phones, which are banned items.

Bomber, a Belgian Malinois, began working in the city’s six prisons in January. He’s the only dog trained to sniff out forbidden phones in prisons in Pennsylvania.

Following the lead of his proficient proboscis, he has found 10 cell phones in the past three months – more than guards found all last year in the state’s 26 prisons.

The prisoners are able to sometimes sneak the cell phnes in with them, but Bomber is on the job to make sure their infraction doesn’t go unpunished. Man’s best friend indeed.
