Motorola Engineers Honored For Developing Cell Phone
by Darren
October 10, 2007 – 10:49 amMotorola has been struggling a bit in the cell phone game, but don’t forget they’re the ones who invented the whole industry. It was thirty years ago when the engineers came up with the idea for what is now your cell phone.
The team created what became the DynaTAC phone, a precursor to the cell phone that was developed in the early 1970s.
The phone took more than a decade to reach store shelves and ultimately weighed in at two pounds and provided a half-hour of talk-time.
This is the third year in a row that GlobalSpec, an engineering search engine company, has given its “Great Moments in Engineering” award.
Imagine how different the world would be without this development.
