Nokia Chooses Microsoft For DRM Management on Mobile Phones
August 6, 2007 – 12:07 pmToday Nokia announced that they’ve chosen Microsoft to manage DRM (Digital Rights Management) on their S-60 and S-40 mobile phone platforms.
This partnership will help prevent the transmission of unlicensed audio, video and other protected content to other cell phones.
“People are increasingly using their mobile devices for enjoying digital content, such as music, games, videos and photos,” said Nokia senior vice president Ilkka Raiskinen. “By adding support for Microsoft PlayReady technology, we are enabling service providers to offer a wide range of content and create truly compelling experiences across mobile devices, personal computers and online services.”
Nokia’s N-60 platform is one of the most widely used ones in the world. N-60 devices equipped with Microsoft’s DRM management are expected to hit the market in 2008.
