Nokia Says iPhone Is Interesting But Not Major Threat

Nokia is impressed with the new iPhone, but not particularily concerned about how the iPhone will affect Nokia’s business. Nokia sells more handsets than any other company worldwide, so when Apple stated their goal as selling 10 million iPhones in 2008, Nokia was not concerned because it represented a mere 1% of the worldwide market.
“It is quite an interesting product but it is lacking a few essential features, such as 3G, which would enable fast data connections,” Vanjoki, whose multimedia unit is a direct rival to Apple, was quoted as saying by Finnish business daily Taloussanomat.
Nokia appear non-plussed because they’ve been moving more towards a multimedia strategy anyways, selling close to 70 million phones with integrated MP3 players in 2006.
That strategy is unlikely to change in 2007.
