There’s been a real landslide of new phone releases this week, including a new one by Sony Ericsson. The Sony Ericsson W880i is the newest phone to embrace a philoshopy of “slim is in”. This latest review points out some of the key features:

Outside of the more niche W950i, the W880i looks to be Sony Ericssons leading light, usurping the W850i as top dog. It definitely has that tactile wow factor previously missing from the earlier Walkman phones, with a 9.4mm-thick profile that is thinner than a CD case. It feels incredibly trim, with a front stainless-steel veneer and a rear soft-paint finish adding to its tactile nature. At 71g, the W880i is also feather light, so you could easily slip it in your shirt top pocket or trouser pouch without it making a dent.

But does its gossamer frame compromise its feature capacity? Not a jot. In fact, Sony Ericsson has managed to cram the W850is feature line-up into half the space. This includes 3G capabilities, a MemoryStick Micro slot, a front camera for video calling, a two-megapixel shutterbug and the latest Walkman 2.0 music player.

The phone does not receive a stellar review from the reviewer, although he takes the time to point out the strengths and weaknesses.

Are you familiar with the Sony Ericsson W880i? How does the phone work for you?
